Oh yeah, and a bucketload of hero worship, because she’ll be learning from none other than Victoria Ford, the former prima and “Queen of Ballet,” who’s now the company’s artistic director. At 21, she’s a little older than some of the other dancers, but she has passion, drive, and talent on her side. My only regret is that I didn’t start reading it the minute it was released because this book left me wrecked in the best possible way.Īnna Gale is finally achieving her dreams, walking in to her first day at the Metropolitan Ballet in New York. I don’t know that I would have picked up The Music and the Mirror except that a friend recommended it to me, and then another friend, and then… well. And even now, as much as I’m drawn to stories with professions I don’t often see in lesbian romance, ballet is never one of them. The slow build-up was perfect – the sexual tension at some points was palpable. When Veronica can’t keep her eyes off Cassie we know why. She writes of small, seemingly insignificant looks and glances that could be missed, except we know what they mean. Lola Keeley impressed me with her previous novel, ‘The Music and the Mirror’, so I was looking forward to this new one. It gave us a chance to wander the capital’s streets, which were recognisable and familiar and an integral part of the story.
The London teaching hospital setting was perfect.
She is determined, unconventional and very, very hot. Army medic Cassie makes quite an impression from the get-go. Veronica appears to be a bit aloof and the classic Ice Queen, but appearances can be deceptive. I think it was the exceptionally desirable characters in ‘Major Surgery’ that first grabbed my attention.
